![]() ![]() Seeing Gannicus and Sybil felt a little strange. It was unfortunate to see him go out like such a punk in his final battle but much more realistic than a glorious fight to the death. There hasn’t been much else to say about Agron this season but he has always remained a pillar of strength and stability for Spartacus, dutiful and never wavering in his allegiance. I’m glad to see Agron’s jealousy has subsided, a rather silly sub-plot, and found his final conversation with Nasir touching. Either way, seeing these two titans say goodbye was emotional.Īgron has been so devoted to Spartacus this season that I did not expect to see him leave with Crixus when the time came. McIntyre has done a great job, especially this season, but it’s hard not to think that it should have been Whitfield sharing this moment. It hit me that this was the last time these two characters would be seeing each other alive and I thought both Bennett and McIntyre did a fantastic job, yet it was hard not to think about Andy Whitfield during this scene. Later we get another great conversation with Crixus and Spartacus reminiscing about their time in Batiatus’ Ludus. I’m glad that the split of their forces was handled amicably instead of one driven by anger between the two. His resolve to take the fight to Rome, as crazy a plan as it is, was convincing to the point you almost believe he could pull it off. Crixus’ speech to Spartacus about why he wants to stay behind and fight his way to Rome is rousing and some of Manu Bennett’s strongest work on the show. There are plenty of goodbyes and great conversations to be had throughout the early part of this episode. “Separate Paths” is filled with emotionally striking moments that give tribute to old friendships borne from common purpose and then delivers one of the series darkest moments. We’re reaching the final few campaigns of Spartacus’ rebellion against Rome and with the bloody end approaching it’s a good time for the series to reflect on the journey so far while also catapulting us into a pivotal, heart-wrenching, moment of the war. Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
